SDU Microelectronics, part of the Department of Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering (TEK), University of Southern Denmark (SDU), invites applications for two 3-year positions as Assistant/Associate Professor in Open-Source Analog and Mixed-Signal Chip Design.
We are looking for candidates who can strengthen our research and teaching in analog and mixed-signal integrated circuit design, with a focus on open-source chip design workflows, open PDKs, and silicon-proven, reproducible hardware research.
The positions are available from May 1, 2026.
Research Focus Areas
Applicants should have strong experience in one or more of the following overlapping areas:
Analog and mixed-signal IC design: amplifiers, references, data converters, sensor interfaces, and power management circuits
Open-source chip design workflows: open-source EDA tools, open PDKs, and design automation for analog and mixed-signal ICs
Analog–digital co-design: mixed-signal architectures, modeling, and verification
Tape-out, silicon bring-up, and measurement-based validation
Reproducible and open hardware research practices, including documentation and shared design repositories
Experience with multi-project wafer runs, ASIC validation, and measurement setups is considered an advantage.
Teaching Responsibilities
The employees will contribute to teaching and supervision at Bachelor and Master level within areas such as:
Offering training courses within Open-Source Chip Design at international events both physical and online
Preparing training courses based on available IPs using open source PDKs offered to industry and academia
Analog Mixed-Signal IC design
Design methodologies for analog and mixed-signal ICs and Radio-Frequency ICs
Bachelor and Master thesis supervision (if needed)
Successful candidates are expected to contribute to high-quality, research-based teaching and to develop teaching activities aligned with modern analog and mixed-signal chip design workflows.

Conditions of employment
This appointment as both assistant professor or associate professor is temporary for a 3-year period, with a preferred start date for May 1, 2026.
Employment as an assistant professor requires academic qualifications at a minimum of PhD level at the time of employment, with a preference for candidates with postdoc experience. During employment, the assistant professor will complete the Lecturer Training Programme.
Employment as an associate professor requires academic qualifications at PhD level as well as scientific and teaching qualifications commensurate with the position as an associate professor, i.e. research and teaching qualifications at a level that can be achieved through a satisfactorily completed period of employment as assistant professor.
Employment will be in accordance with the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations for academics in the state included the associated circular on the protocol for the job structure for academic staff at Danish universities and the provisions for assistant professor or associate professor as described therein. Persons employed in the position may, based on a specific individual managerial assessment, be exempted from time registration, also known as a “self-organizer”.
