Postdoctoral Position In Functional Genomics And Liver Plasticity
A postdoctoral fellowship is available in the Ravnskjaer lab (Ravnskjaer lab - SDU) headed by Assoc. Prof. Kim Ravnskjaer and part of the Functional Genomics and Metabolism Research Unit at the Dept. of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Southern Denmark (SDU). This position is part of the NovoSTAR Program (Science Talent Attraction and Recruitment) and a collaborative project between the Ravnskjaer lab and the Liver Disease Research unit at Novo Nordisk A/S.
The full-time position is available from February 1, 2024 or soon thereafter. The project duration is two years with the possibility of extension. The position is based at SDU, Odense, DK, with the anticipation of shorter research stays at collaborating institutions. We offer a stimulating working environment defined by scientific excellence, curiosity, and state-of-the-art technologies. We have a strong interdisciplinary tradition bringing together basic science, clinical science, and industry.
We invite PhD-level candidates with a keen interest in understanding the molecular basis for liver plasticity to apply. The successful candidate will be responsible for the investigation of receptor signaling in Metabolic dysfunction-associated Steatohepatitis (MASH). The project has a strong translational focus involving the analysis of patient liver samples by single-cell RNA-sequencing, computational analysis of single-cell RNA-sequencing data, and ex vivo validation studies. Findings will be published in a high-ranking scientific journal.
Applicants should therefore have a solid background in molecular and cell biology or similar with an outstanding record. Have hands-on experience with tissue processing for microscopy and next-generation sequencing, as well as computational analysis of next-generation sequencing data in R or Python. A good understanding of liver biology and tissue fibrogenesis as well as experience with single-cell transcriptomics analyses is a clear advantage.
We further expect that applicants:
- Have a strong work ethic, are self-motivated and ambitious
- Are structured in their work and the documentation hereof
- Have good communication skills and are proficient in spoken and written English
- Have excellent collaborative skills and a desire to work in an interdisciplinary team
The Ravnskjaer lab is partner in the ATLAS center for Functional Genomics and Tissue Plasticity (www.sdu.dk/en/atlas) and has a focus on non-parenchymal cell plasticity in the development and regression of human liver disease from the organismal level to the single cell.
Application deadline is 7 January 2024
Based on incoming applications, selected candidates are invited for interview (physical or virtual) in mid-January, 2024. Shortlisting may be used as part of the evaluation and recruitment process.
For further information, please contact Assoc. Prof. Kim Ravnskjaer (ravnskjaer@bmb.sdu.dk).
