The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Southern Denmark (SDU) in Odense invites applications for a postdoctoral position embedded in the laboratories of the Nucleic Acid Center as part of a Novo Nordisk Foundation NERD project on DNA-Encoded Chemistry. The research unit focuses on engineering of state-of-the-art oligonucleotide and peptide bioconjugates for applications in DNA-programmed chemistry, fusion of biomembranes and functional oligonucleotides for molecular sensing and oligonucleotide-based therapies.
The postdoctoral project is part of our current activities on DNA-Encoded enzymatic chemistry. Our group is specialized in the synthesis of highly modified DNA and RNA oligonucleotides as well as peptides using automated synthesis. Our lab is strongly engaged in on-site collaborations with colleagues from biophysics and molecular biology as part of a very interdisciplinary team.
We are seeking a highly motivated applicant to join our research team for a project on efficient DNA-encoded enzymatic chemistry to complement current oligonucleotide activities within the Nucleic Acid Center.
The ideal candidate has the following competences and skills:
- A Ph.D. in bioorganic chemistry or related disciplines
- A background including chemistry and molecular biology techniques (enzymes and bioconjugation).
- Good interpersonal and communication skills (English) for effective teamwork across disciplines.
Additional valuable skills:
- research expertise in preparation and characterization of soft nanoparticles (liposomes)
- hands-on experience with HPLC/UHPLC/LC-MS
- research experience in automated synthesis of oligonucleotides and/or peptides
The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy is one of four departments at the Faculty of Science, SDU and is located in Odense. The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy is a department focused on basic research. We are happy to move beyond traditional disciplines and work to develop new technologies and sciences across physics, chemistry, pharmacy, mathematics, computer science and biology. The Department’s research thus contributes to new knowledge and solutions with applications in the areas of climate, environment, energy and health.
The department handles research in chemistry, physics and pharmacy along with several interdisciplinary areas, and also houses several major research centres. The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy is responsible for the educations in chemistry, medicinal chemistry and physics, as well as the bachelor’s education in pharmacy.
The postdoc position is placed in the Section for Chemistry and Pharmacy and will work in a highly collaborative atmosphere with theorists and experimental scientists.
Starting date: 1 February 2024 or soon thereafter. The position is for up to two years.
