The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applicants for a two-year postdoc in the field of Radio Very-Long-Baseline-Interferometric (VLBI) modelling in the group of Associate Professor Roman Gold.
The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy is one of four departments at the Faculty of Science, SDU and is located in Odense. The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy is a department focused on basic research. We are happy to move beyond traditional disciplines and work to develop new technologies and sciences across physics, chemistry, pharmacy, mathematics, computer science and biology. The department’s research thus contributes to new knowledge and solutions with applications in the areas of climate, environment, energy and health.
The postdoc position is placed in the Section for Physics. The candidate will be part of a stimulating research environment that includes research groups focusing on black holes, classical and quantum gravity, cosmology, dark matter and astroparticle physics.
Project
This position is part of the EU-InfraTech grant "RADIOBLOCKS" involving a large network with 30+ partner institutions from which the candidate will benefit.
This position is devoted to the development of new, publically available software packages to handle the VLBI data challenges of the future.
The two-year project therefore has a strong focus on VLBI modelling and Bayesian methods in python. Expertise in these areas is therefore a must. Additional expertise that overlaps with the research of the group (Black Holes, Gravitational Waves, Neutron Stars) is beneficial, but not mandatory. The postdoc can also work on other projects, provided that progress on the main project remains satisfactory.
Duration: Two years. The start date is as early as possible in 2024. An extension by a third year may be possible subject to satisfactory performance and the availability of funds.
Deadline: 23 January 2024.
Please see the full call, including how to apply, on www.sdu.dk.
