The Department of Biology, Ecology Group, Kerteminde Marine Biological Research Centre (MRC), University of Southern Denmark is looking for a part-time A-TAP (15 hours per week) in the period September 2024 to August 2026.

Job Description

We are seeking a candidate with the following qualifications:

Networking: Extensive experience networking with macroalgae researchers, cultivators, and processors.

Sustainable Exploitation: Proven experience in the sustainable exploitation of seaweeds and other wild resources for food production and tourism activities.

Market Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of current food trends and connections with key resource persons and SMEs in areas with high potential for wild resource-based food production.

Product Development: Experience in organizing product development projects, including collaborations between primary producers, food producers, vocational schools, and restaurants through workshops and specialist engagement.

Community Development: Experience in developing local activities that enhance social life and economic activities, such as ecotourism and gastro-tourism.

Project Engagement

The project AlgaeFood is a 3-year initiative funded by Interreg Deutschland-Danmark, focusing on social innovation and public awareness. Coordinated by the University of Southern Denmark (SDU), the project aims to integrate algae into regional diets, enhance public knowledge, and support local businesses. Activities include outreach, educational programs, and the development of algae-based products, promoting algae as a healthy and environmentally friendly food option.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborative Engagement- Engage with academic institutions, commercial entities, and processing facilities to foster collaborations and share knowledge.

Sustainable Practices- Ensure the long-term viability of natural resources through innovative and sustainable harvesting practices, integrating them into food production and ecotourism activities.

Market and Trend Analysis- Stay updated on current trends in the food industry, particularly those related to wild and sustainably sourced ingredients, and establish connections with SMEs and other key stakeholders.

Product Development Initiatives- Organize and lead product development initiatives involving primary producers, food producers, vocational schools, and restaurants.

Community and Economic Development- Design and implement activities that attract tourists, support local economies, and promote sustainable tourism while preserving cultural and environmental heritage.
