SDU Mechanical Engineering (SDU ME) invites applications for multiple positions as Associate Professor in Composite Materials Technology and lead for our composite laboratory. SDU ME is part of Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Southern Denmark, located at the main campus in Odense.

SDU ME embraces a wide field of expertise within mechanical design and construction, structural dynamics and optimization, mechanical robotics, composite manufacturing technology, and fluid mechanics. We offer education programs in mechanical engineering at both bachelor and master levels. We create research and development in collaboration with internal and external partners and industry.
To complement our team, we are looking for multiple associate professors within the field of composite technology, preferably with experience in the following fields:
• Design of composite components and structures, such as wind turbine blades, drone fuselages and rotors.
• Analysis and optimization of composite structures for performance and integrity.
• Development and optimization of manufacturing processes for composites.
• Mechanical tests of designed and manufactured composite structures and components
- Experience from the industry or documented experience in collaboration with the industry.
The successful candidates for this position are expected to contribute both in on-going research projects and by defining and establishing new projects together with colleagues and industrial partners. A key element in the position will be development of consultancy services for industry from the composite laboratory and establishing the lab as an attractive research infrastructure for both university and industry. In addition, the candidate shall contribute with competence and dedication to teaching of existing and new courses, mainly in composite materials and technology at bachelor and master level and supervise bachelor, master, and PhD students.
Depending on previous experience, the successful candidates will complete a Lecturer Training Programme that equips them with the necessary tools to conduct effective and inspiring teaching.
Our engineering programmes are a combination of theory courses and projects, and you will be involved in both activities. Teaching is planned in teams, and as an associate professor you will play an active role contributing to the ongoing development of future engineering education.
We offer positions where the successful candidates will be part of a dynamic institute, working both at the SDU Campus Odense and at the SDU Composite Lab in HCA Airport, Beldringe, where they will have freedom to explore ideas and curiosity in the well-equipped SDU Composite Lab including Filament winding machine, Hot wire CNC foam cutting machine, vacuum pumps, oven etc. Composite lab equipment
The SDU Composite Lab is part of SDU UAS Test Center located nearby HCA Airport, Beldringe. The UAS test center develops and tests drones and drone-related system platforms.
The successful candidates must have:
- PhD degree in mechanical engineering or related fields,
- Documented experience in working with composite materials technology as listed above – industrial or academic,
- Interest in developing courses and teaching composite materials and technology,
- Experience with providing engineering services in the area of composite materials,
- Good communication skills in English.
In addition, the following experiences are valued:
- Experience with industrial collaboration,
- Ability to attract external research funding,
- R&D leadership and ability to define and manage research projects,
- Participation in national and international academic networks of researchers,
- Team-working skills in addition to self-motivation and the ability to work independently.

Conditions of employment
Appointment as associate professor is permanent.
Employment as an associate professor requires academic qualifications at PhD level as well as scientific and educational qualifications at a level achievable based on satisfactory completion of a period of employment as assistant professor/researcher but may be achievable by other means.
The main responsibilities of an associate professor are research and research-based teaching.
The successful applicants will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Further information on salary and taxation.
