The Department of Business & Management (DBM), University of Southern Denmark, invites applications for one or more 3-year PhD scholarships within accounting. The positions are located at SDU’s Campus in Odense, but teaching may be required at our Campus in Kolding. The Positions are vacant from 1st November 2023 or soon thereafter.

Job description

The research and teaching activities at the department are organized within seven groups: Accounting; Centre for Integrative Innovation Management; Consumption, Culture and Commerce; Finance; International Business & Entrepreneurship; Management of People and Strategic Organization Design.

It is the aim of the department to conduct research of the highest international standard documented through:

  1. publications in internationally distinguished journals
  2. presentations at international conferences
  3. dissemination with high visibility and broad social impact.

Furthermore, the department emphasizes to offer high-quality research-based teaching using the newest teaching methods to enhance students' learning. 

The successful applicant will be responsible for the teaching of courses in Economics / Business Economics and supervision of students at both the BSc and MSc levels.

As part of the PhD programme, an individual education programme within the field of business and management must be completed. The successful candidates will be expected to complete a six-month stay at a research institution abroad and, over the period of the programme, to acquire experience of teaching or other types of presentation. S/he will also be expected to participate in the various activities within the group and – apart from the stay abroad – to be present on a daily basis.

Application, salary, etc.

Your employment as a Salaried PhD Research Fellow is governed by the agreement of 10 November 2015 on Graduate Employees in government appendix 5 – protocol on PhD Research Fellows. The scholarship runs for three years.

An application must include:

  • Detailed CV - if possible, including publications and teaching experiences.
  • A certified copy of your master’s degree certificate including all examination results
  • Application form (please see below)
  • A project description (max 5 pages of 2400 characters each, including spaces, notes, appendices, bibliography etc.) - the description should clearly specify the key research theme that the proposal is contributing to.
  • An abstract for the above project description of no more than 250 words
    • The abstract must clearly state the research area, objectives and methods of the project.
    • The abstract must contain a well-motivated suggestion for a supervisor among faculty at the Department of Business & Management – see list of employees here:

All non-Danish documents must be translated into English.

Applications will be assessed by a committee. The assessment committee will base its evaluation on the current qualification guidelines of the Department (see here). The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material. The committee reserves the right to arrive at a decision solely based on the material submitted.

When the evaluation committee has submitted its report, the applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns him/her. The assessment report will subsequently be forwarded to the Head of Department who will assemble an appointments committee. The appointments committee will manage and complete a series of job interviews with promising applicants. On the basis of the applications, the written assessments, the job interviews, and a deliberation within the appointments committee, the Head of Department determines which candidate(s) will be offered the position.

Applications that are incomplete with regard to the above requirements will not be assessed by the committee.

Shortlisting and tests may be used in the assessment process.
