A position as assistant professor (50 % time) is vacant at the Research Unit of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology (ORL) at the Department of Clinical Research, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark (SDU) to be filled from May 1, 2024 (or as soon as possible thereafter).
The position is limited to 3 years with the possibility of extension.
Research tasks
The successful candidate will be expected to carry on with own research and to develop a research program related to current and future studies within audiology. Research collaboration with the Department of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, Head and Neck Surgery & Audiology at Odense University Hospital will be expected. Research funding - if granted - can be used to extend the position to a full-time Assistant Professor position. Research obligations can then be as supervisor or co-supervisor of PhD students within audiology related to clinical audiology field studies and to epidemiological studies on the consequences of hearing loss in many aspects. The successful candidate will have influence on future research directions to continue own research and to shape new research projects.
Teaching tasks
The successful candidate will be expected to support the audiology study program at SDU by carrying out teaching duties at both undergraduate and graduate level. The audiology study program has an intake of 35 students at the bachelor level and approximately 20 students at the master level each year.
The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching both introductory and advanced courses related to topics such as hearing aid fitting, clinical audiology, and epidemiology for future audiologists. The successful candidate will also be responsible for revising existing and developing new courses as well as responsible for exams and evaluation of students. Furthermore, supervising bachelor and master projects in audiology will be an integrated part of the job.
SDU works actively on developing future teaching methods, such as e-learning and flipped classrooms. Documented experience with such methods will therefore be an advantage.
Administrative duties
The successful candidate will be expected to carry out administrative duties related to the organization of the audiology study program.
Qualifications
Applicants for the position must have the following qualifications:
- A PhD degree in hearing science, audiology, or a related field
- Research experience documented by international peer-reviewed journal articles and conference presentations within audiology or a related field
- Experience with supervising student projects on the bachelor or master program level related to audiology
- Experience with teaching classes or courses related to audiology
Employment requires scientific qualifications at PhD level in accordance with the Danish ministerial order on job structure for academic staff at universities.
Danish language skills are not required initially but should be mastered within the first 2 years of employment.
The candidate who is hired must complete a Lecturer Training Programme during the period of employment.

Salary and terms of employment
The applicant will be employed at Department of Clinical Research, SDU in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
