BEMÆRK: Ansøgningsfristen er overskredet

The RNA splicing and Disease group at the Section for Translational Biology, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Southern Denmark, invites applications from outstanding postdoctoral candidates. The position is available from 1 January 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter and the employment will run for up to two years. Application deadline: 10 November 2023.

Research project
To investigate a new disease mechanism where inherited mutations in the RNA binding domains of the splicing regulatory proteins RBM10 and RBM12 lead to new clinical phenotypes. It is hypothesized that missense mutations may alter the conformation and structure of RBM10/RBM12 RNA binding domains thereby changing their RNA recognition and target binding.

The postdoctoral candidate will investigate in molecular detail, employing advanced techniques (RNA-seq of patient samples, CRISPR/Cas genome editing, eCLIP, in-vitro RNA binding, SSOs etc.) how mutations in these RNA binding proteins cause splicing changes in target genes, leading to altered functions and shifts in gene regulatory networks important in development and cancer.

The project will provide a paradigm for future studies of structure function relationships in other RNA Binding Motif proteins and contribute important knowledge on the molecular mechanisms involved when mutations in these functional domains lead to dramatically different phenotypes.

Research environment
The research group is part of an international, ambitious, highly dynamic, and well-equipped working environment. The section and the department have state-of-the-art facilities for next generation sequencing, flow cytometry, mass spectrometry, metabolomics, bioimaging and transgenic mouse work. The project is carried out in collaboration with Odense University Hospital (OUH) and international collaborators.

Qualifications/requirements
We are looking for highly motivated, dedicated, and ambitious scientists with:

  • A PhD degree in Life Science, preferably Molecular Biology or Biomedicine.
  • Documented expertise in RNA biology and RNA-seq data analysis is an advantage.
  • Ideally at least one first author publication in a relevant journal.
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
