Two positions as either assistant professor, associate professor, or professor in Biostatistics are available within the Research Unit for Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Biodemography (EBB) at the Department of Public Health, University of Southern Denmark in Odense, Denmark, from December 1, 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter.
Applications are welcome in any area of Biostatistics, which will enhance and complement existing areas of expertise at the research unit.
The research unit of EBB at SDU is well known for its research into a broad range of human health aspects and its particular focus on twin and aging research.
The positions primarily involve:
- Statistical methods applied and developed in health science research. The biostatistics group is working on theoretical problems that occur in various observational studies and clinical trials. In particular, twin and family studies are a main source of application. Examples in focus are time to events of clustered data and of high dimensional omics data.
- Biostatistical contributions in health science research. The biostatistics group connects with international networks of expertise, and the potential applicant will be expected to engage in new developments and integrate these advancements with the locally represented fields in health science. The group collaborates closely with research groups in mathematics, statistics, molecular biology, and computer science.
- Teaching and supervision. The applicant will engage with the biostatistics group in teaching statistics and research methodology at all levels and in supervising students and researchers from health science fields. The applicant will be expected to engage in supervision and teaching at PhD-level within one or more core topics such as survival analysis, causal inference, mixed models, and artificial intelligence in health science.
The potential candidate will work in a multi-disciplinary team of epidemiologists, geneticists, clinicians, mathematicians, biodemographers, database managers, and biostatisticians.
Major requirements
- A PhD in either biostatistics, statistics, mathematics, data analysis or applied mathematics. Experience in health science research is an advantage
- Demonstrated research contributions
- A research plan and considerations for potential collaborations
- A documented record in teaching applied statistics and a reflected teaching portfolio
- A strong interest in pursuing excellence in teaching and in supervising students and researchers in health science
